Your healthy diet and regular exercise program may maintain a stable weight, but normal changes in your body over time may result in a change in proportions and curves that can affect your body image and self confidence. Further weight loss and exercise may not successfully reshape these problem areas. Body contouring performed by Drs. Pinsky and Lickstein can help patients “reshape” their body by removing fat or skin that has lost its elasticity. Areas treated by body contouring include the neck, upper arms, female and male breasts, abdomen, flanks, back, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees and ankles. It is not uncommon, depending on inpidual patient factors, the extent of surgery needed and surgeon preference, for massive weight loss patients to have multiple operations performed in stages. In such cases, the waiting period between surgeries ranges from weeks to several months or longer.
Liposuction
Although not an alternative for weight loss, liposuction, also known as liposculpture is an effective method of treating pockets of fat resulting from heredity and aging that can be resistant to weight loss and exercise.
Tummy Tuck: Abdominoplasty
Tummy tuck procedures are for women or men bothered by excess fat and loose skin of the abdomen that does not improve with diet and exercise. In addition, the abdominoplasty procedure can help those who have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin with excessive weight or childbirth. Liposuction removes fat, but the excess skin remains. If there is considerable excess skin present, sufficient skin tightening will not occur. The abdominoplasty procedure removes excess skin and tightens the underlying muscles, resulting in a flat appearance to the abdomen.
Lower Body Lift
The body lift procedure is performed on patients that have excessive skin that extends beyond the abdomen to the buttock and thigh areas. Often, these patients that have lost large amounts of weight through diet or after bariatric surgery. The body lift surgery reaches further than the abdominoplasty, removing excess skin and fat from the entire midsection of the body. The incision wraps around the entire body.
Medial Thigh Lift
While a body lift may address skin laxity of the lateral thighs, may patients that have lost weight note excess skin that is present at the medial aspect of their thighs, extending down from the groin to the knees. The thigh lift procedure performed by Drs. Pinsky and Lickstein can address this area.
Arm Lift: Brachioplasty
Brachioplasty, also known as Arm Lift or Arm Tuck, is a procedure designed to remove the redundant, loose skin of the upper arms. Hanging arm skin, also known as “bat wings”, can interfere with one’s ability to fit properly into clothing. The brachioplasty procedure can reshape the appearance of the underportion of the upper arm from the underarm to the elbow.
