Home/Face/Facial Implants

There are many reasons patients request chin and cheek implants. These facial contouring procedures offer men and women an opportunity to address a variety of common concerns, including aesthetic asymmetries and imbalances, loss of volume due to aging or adverse health conditions, and broader dissatisfaction with underdeveloped features. By subtly refining these characteristics, many patients can experience natural-looking enhancement and improved contours. Our West Palm Beach plastic surgeons emphasize a conservative approach to facial implants, opting to supplement the patient’s natural shape for a beautiful result.

Facial Implants: What Are the Options?

There are several methods of recontouring the cheeks, jawline, and chin using facial implants, which can produce a more youthful and balanced appearance. Many patients request implants to address weakness in the chin or hollowness in the cheeks. Our physicians understand that plastic surgery is a major decision, so we offer patients VECTRA® 3D Cosmetic Imaging technology to help visualize the potential results in advance of any procedure. The simulated outcome can assist both doctor and patient in developing a treatment plan—which can include coordinating facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift or rhinoplasty—that best suits individual goals. *Cheek and chin implants typically provide long-lasting, effective enhancement. Below is a brief overview of implants:
*Individual Results May Vary

Chin Augmentation (Genioplasty)

Chin implants are the most common facial implant, and they help frame the face and support the neck and jawline. Designed to enhance projection of the chin, these implants are typically made of molded solid silicone, called silastic, and have a long history of successful use. Typically performed using local or general anesthesia, the surgery involves the insertion of the implant through an incision created either inside the mouth or underneath the chin and secured with sutures. Chin implants are custom fitted to conform to each patient’s unique features.

Cheek Augmentation

Cheek implants generally come in three different shapes: malar, submalar, or combined. Malar implants are placed directly on the cheekbones and are designed to heighten contours along the side of the face. Submalar implants are located below the cheekbone and project forward, adding volume to the midface. A combination utilizes both shapes to address multiple areas of concern. As with chin implants, cheek implants are typically made of solid silicone, and they are commonly placed through a small incision created inside the mouth, leaving an undetectable scar.
Determining the size and shape of facial implants requires an artistic eye and keen sense of balance. Our doctors recognize that men and women often require different aesthetic approaches, and masculine or feminine results can be achieved as desired. During the initial consultation, your doctor will discuss the details of each cosmetic procedure and develop a customized treatment plan based on your aspirations and physical needs.
